STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR YOUR BODY

I have often found myself explaining why I look or perform the way I do, and in speaking to clients and friends, I know many powerful and radiant individuals who can relate.

HAVE YOU EVER FOUND YOURSELF SAYING…

Oh, I’m just really bloated because of my hormones; I don’t always look this way.

Yeah I’m just super broken out because I ate dairy; usually I have great skin.

Sorry I look like such a hot mess! I didn’t get much sleep last night and have been crazy busy.

I couldn’t lift as much or move as fast today because I missed a few workouts.

I’m not as strong as I used to be.

I’m not as lean as I used to be.

I’m used to be in good shape.

Or something along those lines?

I know I have. And you know what? It never feels good to me to say those things—and no one within earshot feels good about it either.

When we do this, we invite others to see us as less than we are, and whether or not they actually accept that invitation, the feeling of being less-than lingers within us.

I understand the need to explain our bodies, but that need is rooted in something other than love, compassion, and power. Can we instead root ourselves in those emotions and drop the explanations? Can we step into a space of ownership in which we have the courage to show up, just as we are, no explanations necessary?

Let’s be more mindful of how we speak about ourselves; let’s stop justifying the way we look and instead show up confidently and unapologetically in our bodies. Because when we do that, it shifts the energy for us and everyone in our midst, and puts us firmly in our divine power.
