The New Year and your New Year's Resolutions

A new year is the perfect opportunity to grow and develop! This time of year the internet is flooded with the resolutions of people who want to grow and become the best versions of themselves, but let's face it: it's not as easy as it sounds! We all make resolutions for the new year but not everyone holds themselves accountable for following through with their goals. The reason why most people fail is because of a lack of support and accountability, but another reason is because their goals are not crystallized enough--they haven't made them SMART.

We've all heard of SMART goals, or at least kind of know what they are, but here at CNU Fit we want to make sure that your goals are not only realistic but they align with you as a person. We make WHY SMART goals.

What exactly are WHY SMART goals?

W - Written

A Harvard Study showed that only 3% of people write down their goals, and those 3% are more successful and disciplined than the 97% of people who don't. The reason why is you're actually using more brain power: Just thinking about your goal only uses the left hemisphere of the brain, but if you write down your goals you are using the right hemisphere as well, signifying the importance of the goal. Pretty neat stuff!

H - Harmonious

Your goals need to be harmonious with your lifestyle. They can't be so out of step with your daily path or your beliefs, otherwise you will eventually fall off because it doesn't correlate with who you are.

Y - Yours

Make sure your goals are yours. They can't be a spouse's or your doctors because you won't be as committed to them as something you really want.

S - Specific- your goals have to be specific: you can't just say you wan't to lose weight because if you lose one pound that's losing weight right?

M - Measurable- you have to be able to measure them. A good goal isn't something like: I want better confidence. A good goal is saying something tangible: I want to get into a size 8 because then I will have more confidence

A - Attainable- your goals have to be achievable, they can't be something unrealistic like loosing 30 lbs in a month (that's just not healthy).

R - Relevant - your goals have to be relevant to your current life. It has to make sense- if your goal is working out 2 hours a day but you work 12 hour shifts that's probably not realistic or relevant to where you currently are in life.

T - Time bound - you have to have an end date, otherwise you'll forever be striving towards your goals without reaching them.

If you make your goals for the New Year WHY SMART there is nothing stopping you from achieving success and becoming the best version of yourself!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
