Dover Personal Trainer gives tips on exercise during vacation

Summer is here (DE weather should catch up soon right?), and with summer comes family vacations, cruises, outdoor trips, and a slew of other fun things that could definitely get in the way of your fitness routine.

When we go on vacations most of us don’t pick a location based off of gym availability, and those that do are truly those that plan ahead. Exercise is the last thing that comes to mind when planning a vacation, but the reality is that one vacation can easily set you back a few weeks in reaching your goals.

The reason why is because during this time we are not only less active, but we tend to eat worse than we normally would. Combined, this can definitely cause you to gain a few pounds by the time you come home.

It’s easy to keep up a routine if you are staying at a hotel with a gym, but what about those vacations that are off the beaten path? We have some tips to plan ahead and get creative so you can keep up your routine and continue to work towards your results:

  1. Body weight modifications

Almost every exercise has some sort of modification that can be done with just body weight. And if you don’t know what that is, there’s no shame in going back to the basics: body weight squats, lunges, push ups, etc. Just make sure when you are doing bodyweight exercises you are doing enough reps to get a good workout in.

  1. Bands

If you really love using weights but are going to a place that doesn’t have a gym (or you don’t have enough room in your suitcase), then bands are an easily transported alternative. Bands are just as effective at sculpting and toning muscles as weights are, but they are easy to carry around and less expensive than buying a set of dumbbells.

  1. Make it a part of the fun

If you really don’t want to feel like you’re working out on your vacation, than pick some active fun activities to help pass the time. Things like bike riding, rock climbing, walking along the beach can all help you stay on track even while you’re having a great time!

We hope this helps you stay motivated to reach your goals while on vacation!
