As we go into 2017, I wanted to take the time to talk about realistic goals. Below are six goals you should implement when considering fitness.

First: A mindset of a healthy sustainable fat loss.

You may have the question: What is healthy sustainable fat loss?

Here is the answer: .5% – 1% of total body weight is ideal for most people, that is equivalent to .5 – 2.5 lbs per week. To be honest, the 2.5 lbs is very aggressive and your body weight would should be around 200-250 lbs to lose that much. Ideally, we would like for most individuals to lose around .5- 1 lbs per week.

Second: Why? Why do you have the goals you have? Why is your goal important?

When answering the why, dig a couple layers to get the real why. It may be hard to do at first, but it will help you stay on track.

Third: What changes do you need to make? Are those sustainable behaviors?

When considering changes, ask yourself ‘Who is going to influence my goals?’ Surround yourself by individuals who are going to positively impact your behaviors.

Fourth: Who’s goal is it?

Is this goal for you or do other influences want this for you. If this is not your goal, when things start to get difficult, you will quit.

Fifth: When do you want to achieve your goal? What is the time frame?

Make sure to set an realistic time frame that works for you and not what is advertise in the media. Set your goals based on good science.

Sixth: Support? What kind of support system do you have in place to help you along the way.

Remember this quote, ‘No man is an island and even though there are a lot of things you must do for yourself, success is a team sport.’
